Overnight Trip to Groningen with Catz Gin
Hurrah, another small exploration of the world! This time I travelled to Groningen with Catz Gin to explore this Northern, smaller Dutch city and to test out Catz Gin at one of their stockists. Groningen is one of those random cites that you just never would go to if you lived in Amsterdam, I jumped at the opportunity. So here's an honest account of my experience and a couple picca's, as usual. I hope you enjoy!
To explore what Groningen had to offer we went to Mofongo to test out Catz Gin Tonics. I have to say, I'm a pretty big Gin tonic fan, and so I've had my fair share (who's with me?), but I was impressed. The bar men at Mofongo spiced up out drinks by creating two different flavours, one with dried grapefruit and blueberries, the other with cucumber and lemon. Although a little on the pricier side - they were refresing, light and definitely a perfect Summer or late Spring drink. So, if you have the chance to try Catz gin - should you go for it? I say YES. I'm always a big believer in trying most things at least once, and if that means a nice cocktail on a Summer's eve, well, who can resist. ;)
After a couple more drinks at Mofongo, we headed to a Mexican restaurant, called Four Roses's - Mexican, Indian and Thai are always my go to restaurans when I don't know a city, because they basically always have great vegan options. At Four Roses we drank Margaretha's, ate huuuuuge taco's and honeslty had the best Guac I've ever had in my life. There must have been 6 avo's in that one bown, at least - alongside a good helping of homemade corn crisps. YUM.
My 100% fave aspect of Groningen though, was that there were SO. MANY. THIFT. SHOPS. At very non Amsterdam prices, we're talking €1-4 for a tee/sweater. I DIG IT. What I also loved about these thrift shops were that you could find anything and everything under the sun. A much wider selection than the typicaly Amsterdam' thrift shop that focuses on clothing.
